Dante’s Inferno is a book by Sarah Lovett that has been available in hard cover for two years but has just come out in paperback. Not only is it just out but it’s only $6.99. Anyone whose been shopping this month realizes that this is about as good as it gets. So too the book my friends. A thriller with some bite to it. As the book opens a horrific and random(?) bomb at an L.A. museum explodes killing a young boy and his teacher. Crack work on the part of the local P.D. and the F.B.I. gets serial bomber John Freeman Dantes. Well done but noooo.... For bombings continue with Dantes signature construction and notes are sent leading law enforcement to believe that they will have a problem with escalating violence and destruction until in the twisted mind of a criminal the Ninth Circle is reached.
Enter Dr. Sylvia Strange, forensic psychiatrist. She talks to Dantes and considers the probability of him doing the bombings from jail, or just maybe there’s someone else out there. ..... Lovett has written a fast paced and engrossing procedural in this book.
None of the characters are the simple cutouts you normally find in thriller reading. All have something to say and as a reader you become horrified by some and rather protective of others. Wounded souls come from all directions in this read and the pages turn. Perhaps the best character in the book is L.A. herself and Lovett’s non romantic and visceral portrayal of the city is quite enjoyable. If you need a stocking stuffer or just want to chill out from all that December hullabaloo grab a copy and sit back while discovering one of the best in thriller writing out there. Yippie Ki Yeah and happy holidays.
