Ambler...if that is his name...has escaped from a clandestine psychiatric hospital only to discover that he doesnąt seem to exist. Attempts to find him in computer databases to which this high-ranking CIA operative has access prove unable to trace him. He doesnąt even look like he remembers, and his memory seems totally unreliable.

Not to worry. If the government wants him disappeared, a private company seems to want him badly, So, are they the good guys? Who knows? But Ambler needs to know. His life, and the life of the nurse who helped him escape, depends on it.

Unhappily Ludlum died in 2001, so of course this book was not written by him. It has much of the flavor of a Ludlum novel and makes a satisfying read in spite of its many flaws. If you like thrillers, this mostly does the job although some questions may not be answered, a few will be transparent, and in some places, too much rambling philosophy. Fans will have to make up their own minds.
