Ward Hopkins and Nina Baynam are living in Sheffler, Washington. Ward and Nina are slowing recovering from their experiences with Ward’s brother Paul and The Straw Men. Paul is a serial killer and a leader in the Straw Men, an organization that Ward found out about only after his parents death. Marshall introduces the organization in his book The Straw Men and follows up in The Upright Man. To fully understand the story it is really important that you read these two books before tackling Blood of Angels.

Two things upset the peace that Ward and Nina have found. Monroe, Nina’s boss at the FBI, returns to press her into service. Ward receives a strange email meant for his friend Bobby who is now deceased. Murders believed to be the act of a female serial killer are occurring in the East and Monroe takes Nina with him to investigate. Ward follows and soon finds out that Paul has escaped.

The Straw Men are once again out to destroy civilization as we know it. John Zandt makes an appearance to assist and attempt once more to kill Paul who kidnapped and murdered his daughter.

We can only hope that The Straw Men are an invention of Michael Marshall’s active imagination.
