Listen to the Dead Follow is the story of Pam Gardner after surviving a head injury in a serious car accident. The story begins with Pam driving away from her home and being chased by a man she is sure is trying to kill her and trying to make it to town and help on icy back roads where she eventually wrecks. Although she can’t remember what happened at her home, getting in her car or why this man is chasing her.

When Pam regains consciousness and returns home, she begins having visions of her dead best friend, Lily, who was murdered the year before. As time proceeds, Pam begins to see other dead women, who were also victims of the same murderer and are trying to warn her that she is in danger. She sees these women but is having trouble communicating with them and frequently loses large lapses of time and memory of these events.

Although somewhat of a believer in some aspects of the paranormal and also one who enjoys horror books between reading mysteries, this book just did not do much for me. At times I felt as if I was rereading the same chapter. Pam would see dead people, not accomplish much in the way of communication, and then wind up with another memory lapse and time loss. She is not sure whether she is really seeing these dead people or if she is losing her mind from the accident.

Although the book was readable, I wouldn’t recommend it even to those who enjoy paranormal books. It was very slow and I had a good deal of the ending figured out before I reached the ending. The story, I believe, would have been much better if Pam had been able to communicate better with the dead women she was seeing. I did not find the ending really plausible either.
