Series: Joe Gunther # 16

On a dairy farm in northern Vermont, a dairy barn burns with all its cows and a young family member inside. It is not immediately clear whether it was suicide, murder or an unfortunate accident. Joe Gunther is called in to investigate and discovers a string of disasters leading to the sale of many farms in the area.

From snowy Vermont this hunt will lead to Newark and mob connections, with more bodies and blazes along the way. Gunther's love life will be affected as his long time lover becomes a target. Mayor's settings and characters, as well as compelling plots, puts him above the average writer in any genre.. The intricacies of politics and family will lead to more tragedy before this tale is finished. Mayor is among the top mystery writers working today.
