“Remembering Sarah” needs to have a warning label on it! It will take your emotions and run away with them. Chris Mooney truly has captured the ability to make you feel the pain and anguish as you are reading. I couldn’t stop until I finished the story.
In “Remembering Sarah”, Mike Sullivan has taken his 6 ½ year old daughter sledding against his wife’s wishes. Sarah goes up the hill with a friend, but never comes down. The search begins, but no one can find her. The story weaves through Mike’s continued search for Sarah. He focuses on a de-frocked priest who has been convicted twice of kidnapping, and actually assaults the man in a drunken rage. Mike finds himself having to attend anger management classes, counseling and maintaining sobriety to stay out of jail. His marriage falls apart. And issues with his ‘abusive’ father and estranged mother emerge. Through all of this, he continues to believe that Sarah is still alive and he can get her back.
Powerfully written with a magnetic drive! Very intense and emotional, that is very well done.
