This review is on the hardcover release of the comics series. Volume one introduces us to the characters, and what wonderful characters they are. Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Hawley Griffin ( The Invisible Man), Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mina Murray. They are recruited to do some work for the British government. The book starts out with a secret meeting with Mina and here subsequent recruiting of the rest of the group.

What follows are some wonderful adventures of this group of literary semi-heroes as they go about saving the British Empire from strange and powerful foes. It has many references to other works these people appear in and some cameo appearances of other famous characters, including Poe’s Dupin.

The art work really does a wonderful job of showing the time period and is very compelling.

As his From Hell did with Jack The Ripper, Moore's work shows these characters in a new and interesting light. I think as graphic novels go, this is one that could be enjoyed by both comic fans and non comics readers equally.
