McCone Investigations is doing well and getting ready to expand . . . until a relatively new operative with a shady past is arrested for major credit card fraud against a former client. After some initial reservations, and threats from State Agencies threatening to ruin the firm, McCone goes looking for the truth - even after finding some of the purchased merchandise in her employee's apartment.

Are the charges true? or part of a conspiracy? Holding on to the company and her reputation depend on McCone finding the truth.

This is the 23rd in the Sharon McCone series. From a poverty law firm to a high-profile investigative agency in San Francisco, McCone has come a long way. What hasn't change is McCone's loyalty and disregard of personal danger. It is classic McCone - right up to and including her avoidance of personal commitment to anyone but her staff! The plot moves at speed, but takes almost a month to sort out, including Hy's repeated question. Definitely a must for McCone fans . . . and if you aren't one, you should be!
