Despite the effort on the part of the author to move series characters forward, and to change the dynamics among the returning protagonists this wasn't a quality story. I liked the subplot of having the sheriff/brother-in-law aspiring to politics and deputizing Magdalena, which threw some new energy group dynamics of the series regulars and in the series storyline but it just wasn't enough. The story had a giveaway plot. There was no mystery as to how, or when the victim was killed. The who and the why were obvious early on. It read like a first effort by an inexperienced author. Tamar Myers is one of my favorite authors but this effort deserves a 3.
