Annie Seymour is struggling with her assignment to write a feature story on Tony Rodriquez, the new chief of police. She winds up with her story but not the feature Annie’s editor envisioned.

First, Annie is interrupted by news that a floater had been found at Long Wharf. Annie grabs a photographer and rushes to the scene. The next news she gets is that of a shooting at the Yale Repertory Theatre. The victim turns out to be Tony Rodriguez so Annie’s feature is turning into front-page news.

Annie has been estranged from Vinny DeLucia since Christmas but his brother Rocco has turned up doing research for his new book. Rocco is an author and is looking for background for his story. Vinny is a Private Investigator and has been doing some work for Annie’s mother.

The killing of the police chief brings Vinny back into the picture as well as Tom, Annie’s ex-boyfriend who is a police officer.

Annie finds herself plunged into a mystery that involves illegal aliens, her own mother, and Annie gets herself so involved it is a wonder she comes out of the whole thing in one piece.

This is a great book. I love Annie and all the characters in Dead of the Day. If you have not read, Second-Hand Smoke and Sacred Cows read these too. All three are page-turners.
