While turn of the last century inventions have been a continuing feature in this series this fourth in the series really concentrated on the development of the automobile, and balloon traveling in the form of a cross country balloon chase to demonstrate the different developing automobile technologies. It was a high energy story reminiscent of Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 day", elements of "Wind in the Willows" and movies such as "The Great Race".

The authors really captured the flavor of the era with real life famous guest appearances by Charles Rolls, and Henry Royce. The death of a race competitor in an automobile accident allows the readers to get into the details of the technologies of that era. Great fun. I loved this book.
