By the latter half of the nineteenth century, radical change sweeps across England as the aristocracy knows their centuries-old lifestyle is ending. Some such as Lord Charles Sheridan and his wife Lady Kathryn relish the increase freedoms that allow them to pursue their personal interests without censor. Charles enjoys photography and sleuthing while Kathryn loves writing mystery novels. As a team, the duo has solved real life cases including homicides.
Another independent eccentric is Jennie Jerome Churchill, who adores her son Winston and will do anything to further along his political aspirations. Though Jennie is bankrupt, she willingly pays off a blackmailer who swears he has proof that her late husband was Jack the Ripper. When the picture falls into the hands of another blackmailer, Jennie turns to Charles and Kathryn for help. The duo investigates the scenario and soon concludes that the identity of Jack reaches the top layer of the Royal Family and thus must remain secret.
Ripperologists will absolutely go jacks over DEATH AT WHITECHAPEL while fans of well-written historical mysteries will relish the depth of detail provided by Robin Paige. The apt use of historical personage adds glamour, flavor, and a feel of reality to the stupendous story line. The protagonists represent a new order as they are free thinkers living independently of the few shallow barriers holding back their class. Ms. Paige has provided her audience with a page burner that will have new readers seeking out previous tales in one of the best historical mystery series available.
