Louis Kincaid is a former police officer turned private investigator in Fort Myers, Florida. He is contacted by Ronnie Cade who wants to hire him to try to help his father, Jack Cade. Jack Cade has just been released from prison after a twenty year term for the rape and murder of a young girl and has now been arrested for the murder of his defense lawyer.

In order to try to figure out whether he believes Cade is actually guilty and if there are any other possible suspects in the attorney’s death, Louis delves into the 20 year old murder of Kitty Jagger. No one including Jack Cade, want him to pursue this line of investigation, however he finds himself obsessed with it.

P.J. Parrish has created a truly likeable character in Louis Kincaid. He also introduces Susan Outlaw, a court appointed defense lawyer and her son into Louis Kincaid’s life. I intend to find Mr. Parrish’s previous books and look forward to reading future installments in Louis Kincaid’s life. I would highly recommend this book to mystery readers. It is full of twists and turns.
