Ridley Pearson’s Cut and Run definitely belongs in the white-knuckle category of hard-boiled mystery novels. Mr. Pearson grips the reader’s attention in the first few pages and doesn’t let go until the very end. Roland Larson, U.S. Marshal, makes a life-altering decision when he becomes romantically involved with a witness he is sworn to protect.

Hope Stevens is in protective custody while awaiting her sworn testimony against the Romero crime family. The Romeros demonstrate their willingness to go to whatever lengths necessary to see that that doesn’t happen. As they unleash a murderous fury in their desperate search, no one who has ever been in contact, however tenuous, with Hope Stevens is safe. And as if that doesn’t perpetuate enough murder and mayhem, an even more serious threat is an apparent attempt to expose every individual who has ever been given a new identity in the federal witness protection program.

Roland Larson finds himself entrenched in the case of his career. Will he measure up to the task or be found wanting? Whatever the outcome, his journey is filled with so much action and suspense that the reader is nearly exhausted by it. If you’re interested in reading a hard-boiled, action-packed police procedural that will keep you guessing, you won’t want to miss Cut and Run.
