St. Martins Minotaur

South of Montreal, just north of the U S border, lies the quiet village of Three Pines. Jane Neal, a plain and plump woman in her seventies, has been found dead in the woods, shocking this small town. Many of her neighbors, even the middle-aged ones, had once been her students. Itıs bow-hunting season and she must have been the target of a stray arrow from a hunter. Surely no one in this friendly town could want Jane gone. It will be the job of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache to investigate.

Penny uncovers life in small town Quebec from the quirky residents to the character of the investigators to the changing weather. There is charm and depth in this story. Inspector Gamache is a worthy addition to fictional detectives. Readers will be happy to know that this is just the first of a superb series.
