This author’s first book is one, which captures your interest from page one. Written in present day tense with flashbacks to the past you learn the full story of a young girl’s early life but few will guess the surprise conclusion.

Set in rural Oklahoma the author brings the characters and locale to life for the reader. A young girl’s reoccurring dream brings memories of a father’s death, a mother’s fear, a gypsy heritage and drives her to try to understand what is real and what is imagined. Her determination to get to the bottom of her father’s death and her mother’s mysterious disappearance sets the little town on edge and begins of series of events including murder, suicide and long buried secrets revealed. I liked the book and would recommend it to friends who like suspense and mystery but haven’t yet learned to enjoy a mystery that doesn’t have a little love interest involved.

This book brought to mind my daughter’s research into the gypsy world brought about by the fact that our city was at one time headquarters for the Gypsy King and he is buried in a local cemetery.
