For Rose, her early years were not good. Her father and her twin brother both died, and she is dependent on a husband whom she loves dearly, Michael. All she asks is complete fidelity, and when she has reason to doubt it, she plans a horrific revenge.
Recently, Gillian White has been producing some great work and this, her latest novel, is no exception. She creates some excellent characters and the twists and turns in the novel are very unexpected, leaving the reader very shocked as they are hit by revelation after revelation in the denouement.
The writing suddenly changes from the past tense to the present and sometimes a change such as this can be off-putting, but here it does not seem to be a problem. White deftly creates a small family, seemingly happy, but one that is built upon very shaky foundations. Full of surprises, but well written, this is going to be another success for White.
