My favorite guilty pleasure in all of reading. I was so ready for this book that it unintentionally became a one-niter. Reilly is a great story teller. Contest was his first book and self-published when it was first out. St. Martin’s has picked up the ball and we’re now able to see the story that started it all off. You will not be disappointed. The tale? Why a contest. A fight to the death by the best warriors the Universe has to offer. It’s held every thousand years earth-time and this time out we’re the home planet. The venue for the contest? The New York Public Library. Evil aliens, cheating contestants, heroic guides, an every day New Yorker, woefully unprepared but trying to get himself and his daughter out alive. There are bombs and swords and hand to tentacle combat. It is a swashbuckler of a story. It is great fun in a time when we can all use a little fun.... the only sorrow.... well I’m not sure all those books are safe. Take a break and enjoy the romp. He was 19 when he wrote this book. Unbelievable!
