Madeline Carter is a stockbroker in New York and she loves her work. Unfortunately a tragic incident at work has made Madeline withdraw from life. Finally she quits her job. Her hometown is Seattle where her mother lives, but instead of returning to there, Madeline opts to settle in Los Angeles. With the help of her former boss, Madeline finds a new home on the estate of Tyler Beckett, a movie director. While it is only a small apartment, she loves her new home and California. It gives some of the peace Madeline is seeking.
Madeline meets Jennifer, Tyler’s teenage daughter, and immediately they become friends. She is invited to a party at Tyler’s home where she meets Emily, who has crashed the party. Tyler and Emily hit it off and become good friends.
The next person Madeline runs into is Ernest Carmichael Billings, an ex-boyfriend from college. Ernie has recently moved to L.A. to run a large company. Ernie gives Emily a tip on the company’s stock. Madeline thinks this over and puts a large amount of her savings into the company stock. Then suddenly the stock goes down and Ernie disappears. Madeline makes it her business to locate Ernie and get some answers.
Finding Ernie is a lot more dangerous than Madeline ever anticipated and Emily is right there to assist her.
This is a very entertaining book and a quick read. I look forward to future Linda L. Richards' novels.
