In 1199 France, Richard the Lionhearted lies dying. He asks for Robin of Locksley to attend to him. Richard plans to bestow the monarchy on John. However, the means to take it away will fall on his nephew Arthur of Brittany. Robin knows that the royal pardon granted to him and his men end the day the legendary Richard dies. John and Sheriff de Lacey will gladly send Robin and his merry men to the gallows.

While Robin attends the King, de Lacey forces Marian into a spat. She feels strongly about protecting a lad from the vicious sheriff. He wants to throw her out of her home. When Robin returns from France, he has to contend with regal politics, a deadly game for the loser as well as the local problems facing his beloved Marian with another of his enemies. Though they love each other, this test to their lasting relationship may prove more difficult than their earlier Sherwood Forest outlaw time.

LADY OF SHERWOOD, the second Robin and Marian tale (see LADY OF THE FOREST), is a superb historical fiction that takes readers to a tumultuous, but pivotal time. The fast moving story line stays true to its prequel and the overall Robin Hood legend yet incorporates intriguing historical tidbits. Robin is a delightful hero struggling between loyalty to his men and Marian, and what is best for England. Marian retains her dynamic personality that makes her a wonderful role model. Jennifer Roberson captures all the legend while adding more to it.
