I'm glad that Dirk Robertson's entertaining adventure romp has a better paperback cover than my review copy, as it really deserves a large readership. Written with an affable/conversational third -person style, it details the story of Murray Kennedy and his misadventures as he escorts a rare violin through New York's JFK airport. Murray's been living with Beverley in South London following the despair caused by the death of his wife as she traversed the road and was hit by a car. In addition to the mental trauma, Murray's arm was damaged as the car clipped him, destroying his promising career as a musician.

Beverley was his neighbour but as she nurses him off the bottle, they become entangled as lovers. Her brother, the rude-boy/Yardie Ray does not welcome him into the family. It isn't Kennedy's fault that he's white, but when he gets involved with a triad gang of ‘snakeheads' in New York. The situation spins out of control and threatens to drag Beverley and Kennedy's daughter Milly into his troubles; Ray and his Yardies are not amused and join the melee. The action alternates between the underworld of London and New York and features an eclectic jumble of characters, and rolls toward an exciting climax.

This is an excellent and fast paced read looking into the way that an innocent man fights for what is important and battles against huge odds. Short chapters and a fast moving story make this a highly recommended way to make a rainy afternoon fly-by. I just hope that this is the start of a series and that Robertson finds a large readership.
