Class/Genre:   Mystery   Legal Setting   Serial Killer
Series: Andy Carpenter # 3
Mysterious Press, 2004, 261 pages

Defense attorney Andy Carpenter is approached by a journalist friend to advise the newspaper when a serial killer begins to contact a writer on the staff, and give him inside information on the murders. Andy reluctantly agrees, and when the reporter is found near the latest dead body, with incriminating evidence in his car and his home, Andy signs on to lead the defense team.

Rosenfelt has a breezy light tone which doesn't seem out of place in what is essentially a grisly tale, and I enjoyed the read quite a bit. The action moves along at a satisfying pace, with several red herrings and unanswered questions. The eventual solution was a surprise, yet believable.

Rosenfelt was an Edgar nominee for an earlier book. He's an author worth following.
