I’ve been reading the exploits of Lucas Davenport for quite a few years. I actually read the first one when it was first published so I guess you could say I'm a long time fan. And with the exception of maybe two books which were just a little off, the series has been quite consistent and enjoyable. The Prey books are something that I look forward to, I read fast and then share.
This latest adventure with Lucas is no exception. It's the first book with Lucas in his new job working cases on a state level. He has followed Rose Marie from the Minneapolis PD to the state level. He is now essentially the gut they send in when shit hits the fan. And when what looks like a lynching occurs in the way northern part of the state, the governor is a bit worried. So Lucas and Del, his long time partner in anti-crime jump into a helicopter and are zipped off to make sense of what happened and keep things from getting out of hand.
But that's not as easy as it seems. For a small town, there is a lot of criminal activity, drugs, stolen cars, and other assorted felonies.
Sanford is on form through out the book with his witty comments, great characters and fast pacing. If you are a fan of this series, you will enjoy this one a great deal. If you haven't read any yet, check it out. You will want to go back and read more.
