Divine Witness is Ryan Seek’s first novel but surely won’t be his last. This isn’t your typical run-of-the-mill murder mystery. The storyline is fresh and the main characters aren’t at all what one might expect in the mystery genre. The protagonists are a couple of typical 12-year-old boys whose adventures are anything but, and whose discovery of some old bones propels them towards a date with destiny. Their grisly discovery prompts them to try to solve several 30-year-old murders through the act of “divining,” but their stint as “divine witnesses” puts the boys and everyone they care about in mortal danger.

The book starts out a tad slow but the second half is a real page turner. Ryan Seek does an excellent job of creating a gradually rising crescendo of suspense and even manages to surprise and shock the reader more than once. Keep your eyes out for more titles by Ryan Seek - this new author is here to stay.
