Noah Braddock fits many stereotypes of young men in Southern California - an accomplished surfer living a go along to get along life. In between trips to the beach he supports himself as a private investigator. When the wealthy mother of a former girl friend approaches him to find her missing daughter Noah accepts the job, against his better judgement but with a small kernel of hope that his former love can find a place for him in her new life.

But the woman's body is found decaying in the trunk of a car. Noah's search for the truth of what happened to her leads him from drug kingpins to swank hotels to the mansions of the area and back again.

Working with a sidekick worthy of a set of stereotypes all his own, and sidestepping a prickly relationship with local law enforcement, Noah eventually finds the truth.

I hope Shelby has more books featuring Noah on the way.
