The Special X division of the Canadian Mounties are back again in Death’s Door. And as usual in these books, there is a psycho loose. But these are not your typical killer books.
In this book in the series we are given more background into the Mounties, plastic surgery, mummies, and the history of the area of Canada bordering the state of Washington. On the other hand, the bad guys are really bad. The murders are described with great detail, so it’s not for the faint of heart. Let’s see if I can sum this up.....
A nobleman in England is going to sell an actual mummy that has been in his family for a few generations. On it’s way to be test for authenticity, it is stolen by a famous highwayman. It then makes it’s way to Canada, which leads to a few people being killed on the way. The reason it was stolen was to find a secret to stop aging. Since it involves a crime in Canada that crosses international borders, it is brought to the attention of Special X, a group of Mounties who handle the big cases. We are also given a very nice look at what is involved with the cyber side of tracking killers.
All in all a very satisfying read. Graphic? Yes, yes it is. Fun?? Yes, Yes it.
