Louisiana Bigshot is Julie Smith’s second outing with P.I. Talba Wallis. In this highly enjoyable book Talba’s friend is found dead of a heroin overdose and she’s not buying the police verdict of suicide. With the help of her boss Eddie and a persistent pounding of the pavement (or should I say bayou) Talba chips away at her friend’s past until she uncovers a truth with frightening present day implications.

Ms. Smith has proven in her long and successful career that she can write a fine amateur detective (Rebecca Schwartz) a wonderful police procedural (Skip Langdon), and now with Talba a.ka. Baroness de Pontalba we know that the lady can do the P.I. novel with the best of them. Reading a Julie Smith tome is always a pleasure and LOUISIANA BIGSHOT is no exception.
