Medically retired from the Detroit Police force as homicide captain, Ed McAvoy has accepted the job of Police Chief in sleepy Peekamoose Heights in the Catskill area of New York State. But Peekamoose is "summer-home" country to many big-city dwellers, and crime can happen anywhere - even in a quiet little village.

Veronica Loring was a retired high-fashion model turned high-fashion designer. She drives a fast car, and has the speeding tickets to prove it. When her Jaguar goes off a cliff in a snowstorm, no one is really surprised. But Dr. Ben Krider's findings during what should be a routine autopsy raise questions that Ed and his team have to unravel.

"Encore to Murder" isn't quite a cozy, but it's close. Because of his big-city background, Ed McAvoy brings with him more expertise than might otherwise be found. The characterizations of small mountain towns rings true, and if you like puzzlers, you really should enjoy this read, curled up safely in front of your own fireplace. I did!
