Right from the start I saw that the word twisted did indeed fit the title. Wow. What a strange collection of characters. Starr has written a wonderfully dark and sometimes comic tale of life in the Big Apple. And the part of the Big Apple we are seeing is the part occupied by one David Miller. Miller used to work for the Wall Street Journal, until a personal crisis threw his life off track. But a chance meeting gets him rolling again. Enter Rebecca, modern dance wanna be, full time party girl. This woman really seems to take his mind off his problems. But, as things progress David finds himself less than fulfilled in his new relationship, which leads him to spend time in a bar on the way home. However, instead of chilling him out, this little stop is the beginning of a nightmare when David discovers his wallet missing. And then the weird stuff starts….
Starr did a superb job with his characters. I was flip flopping on my feelings for David Miller throughout the book. As Miller finds out things about himself and what he is capable of I found myself wondering what I would do in the same circumstances. The other people who fill this tale are real enough that I could swear I’ve meet some of them. How ever after seeing the events in this book unfold I have to say, I’m glad Jason Starr is not the man behind the curtain running my life!
Fast paced, wonderfully written with plenty of twists this is a great book from a rising star. Don’t miss out on a great reading experience. Noir with a Nitrous Oxide tank under the hood.
