April Buchert has arrived back in her small Pennsylvania hometown, leaving behind in California a failed marriage and a tarnished business in interior design. Her father has work for her here with his business Retro Reproductions. His request for her help couldn’t have come at a better time. The downside is that when she fled her hometown years ago, she was leaving behind the scandal of family bankruptcy and divorce. Now she has to learn to survive a smothering mother and her father’s business problems.

Navigating the sticky problems of old acquaintances and a demanding client can be difficult. But when human remains show up at a sight that may point to her father’s involvement, things really get rough. Yost, the local Keystone cop, seems to have it in for her family, and her father’s business is again in jeopardy.

Thayer is a skilled writer, giving the reader interesting and well-defined characters and a solid plot. Her knowledge of eastern Pennsylvania shows through from the terrain and local flora to speech patterns. A writer of quilting mysteries, this is a new series that will have the reader hoping for more.
