A distressing mishmash. Interesting premise - a child kidnapped and murdered 20 years earlier who seems to have returned from the dead to torment her parents and terrorize her former community.

A parade of characters lacking in intrigue is introduced to meet the requirements of the plodding march of the plot. Ominous characters predictably appear and just as predictably are part of the eventual solution. The only character who appealed to me was an injured cat. I finished this one only because it was part of the stash of books I took on vacation.
