Connor Westphal is the deaf publisher of the weekly Eureka in Flat Skunk, which is gearing up for the annual Jubilee festival, which revolves around the frog-jumping contest. The first murder is Buford the Bullfrog. His jockey (handler/owner), Dakota Webster has won the contest for the last few years in which the grand prize is $5,000.00. Dakota then retains Connor’s boyfriend, Dan Smith, the local P.I. to investigate the murder of his frog. Soon a human body and more dead frogs turn up in Critter’s Creek.

The main suspect is Sheriff Elvis Mercer’s son, Jeremiah. The majority of the book revolves around a deaf woman doing the majority of the investigating alone. Her P.I. boyfriend doesn’t appear to do much but sexually service her on a quite regular basis and the sheriff appears to be doing nothing even when his son is the prime suspect.

My rating may be somewhat low due to the fact that I am more into deeper, darker mysteries than this book. I honestly didn’t think I would get through it when it began with a P.I. being hired over the murder of Buford the Bullfrog. If you like fluffy mysteries that aren’t too deep and have a few laughs this would probably be the book for you.
