May 2003, Time Warner Books, 294 pages/$23.95
In her second book featuring Bailey Weggins, Kate White proves once again why she is the editor of one of America’s favorite escapism magazines. A BODY TO DIE FOR is most definitely the kind of mystery one picks up when Calgon and a glass of white wine won’t do it. Watch out though. There’s content in the form of a tight little story here. Bailey decides to escape New York City and visit one of her mother’s oldest friend’s new health spa in Connecticut. Shortly after her first massage Weggin’s finds the first body. Wrapped in Mylar the body ruins the relaxation portion of the weekend for Bailey but kicks off the mystery.
Over the next two weeks our reporter meddles in the investigation, muddles through her love life and enjoys a series of massage that most of us would die for. This book is froth on cappuccino; refreshing with a promise of a little jolt to come.
