Alan Gregory returns in the latest entry in this popular series. The wife of a couple whom he treated several years ago returns to Boulder, and seeks Alan's help a second time. She reveals several startling and distressing details, and plunges Gregory into confusion as he seeks to help her without disclosing the details of her therapy sessions with him.

Gregory's long time friend Sam Purdy, a Boulder cop, is recovering from a heart attack and while he is on leave, also gets drawn into the situation confronting Alan and his patient. The action moves from Colorado to Georgia, Indiana, and Minnesota. A clever serial killer remains one small step ahead of the investigators.

When the perpetrator is eventually unmasked, the reader is in for a surprise!
