Supermodel Bailey Williams does the Letterman show; not the Los Angeles-based bail bond agency operated by Ross Channing. However, a close friend of the very wealthy Bailey suggested Ross is the ideal person because he has extensive contacts in Mexico from living there as a child. Though she is unable to birth a child, Bailey desperately wants one that is hers. She tells Ross that two decades ago, a scientist was rumored to have successfully delivered an out-of-womb baby. Ross, who has accepted sleuthing jobs before, agrees to look into her request.
Ross and his cohorts manage to locate the doctor, Sebastian Post, who allegedly performed the experiments twenty years ago. Dying from emphysema, Sebastian knows that his beloved Mary will have nothing left to her. When Bailey offers a lot of money to fertilize one of her eggs, Sebastian agrees. Even as Bailey and Ross begin to fall in love, Bailey is unaware of the dangerous side effects caused by the so-called success of the procedure.
Charles Wilson is the MAN when it comes to medical thrillers that seem frighteningly plausible. His latest shocker involves the results of medical science taking "progressive" steps forward with human fertilization without considering the consequences. EMBRYO is as good, if not better, than the works Crichton and Cook have produced. This reviewer strongly recommends sub-genre fans try all of Mr. Wilson's (see EXTINCT and DIRECT DESCENDENT)novels for some of the most exhilarating, cutting edge medical thrillers of the decade.
