Pipsqueak is a wonderful book. It is so unlike other mysteries that I’ve been reading that it just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. It is funny, it is fast paced and it has a great story. And the characters.... oh the characters are great too! The story revolves around Garth Carson, who by trade is a taxidermist. He collects, repairs, rents and sells taxidermy. Now I’ll admit my first thought was “ a mystery about a taxidermist?? you’ve got to be kidding” But it works! Garth’s girlfriend, Angie, makes jewelry. They live together in New York in an old diner that has been converted to suit their needs.
In this book Garth stumbles across a stuffed squirrel. The squirrel is named Pipsqueak, and was actually a puppet on a local kids show years earlier. As a fan of the show while a child, Garth really wants this squirrel. As do some other folks, some with guns, some who are just nuts, and one who is related to Garth.
Along the way we are treated to some very fun nostalgic thoughts and some very interesting places.
I really enjoyed this book, and think it should be available every where.
