Series: Josie Pigeon # 7

Josie Pigeon, owner and operator of Island Contracting, has a good contract for the summer. She is renovating the Bride's Secret, an old bed and breakfast that is being converted back into a private home. The summer does not start off well. Josie's employee Nic, who has been asked to hire good workers subject to Josie's final approval, has hired a man to work on a crew which is normally all women. Although he seems to work well with the women, problems arise immediately with his insurance coverage. Then Josie finds that her employers want their youthful and entirely inexperienced grandson to act as the architect for the project while they appear unable to make essential decisions about closets and fixtures. In addition, someone is playing nasty jokes, simulating an old story about the Bride's Secret with mannequins, and a body is discovered on the worksite.

Josie is an appealing protagonist, and the island community provides an interesting backdrop to the story. The mystery element is a little slight, but fans of Wolzien's books should enjoy this addition to the series.
