Series: Will Lee # 4
HarperCollins, 2000, $26.00, pp. 352

Classification: Adult fiction (Political intrigue mystery) Editor's Note: the story of Will Lee began with Wood's book "Chiefs".

Stuart Woods, taking a break from the sexual exploits of Stone Barrington in this novel, decides instead to bring back Will Lee, of 'Run Before The Wind' and 'Grassroots'. Now, Lee is a respected senator from Georgia who suddenly finds himself on a presidential campaign. Will and his wife Kate, an associate director of the CIA realize that they are now playing one of the most deadly games of them all and Will discovers that not only he is running for the presidency, but for his life as well.

'The Run' may be part of a series, but it works equally well as a standalone novel. Anyone could pick it up and quickly become absorbed into the exciting political world of Will Lee. It is an incredibly easy read, written in Woods' normal style and he introduces some characters from his other novels, a very good idea.

I have to admit that I was hoping to see a mention of Stone, but unfortunately not. Perhaps he wouldn't quite fit into Will Lee's world? Although this novel is lacking some of the astonishing plot twists that Woods throws into the Barrington novels, it still works well and it makes a change to have a main character without a marathon sexual appetite. This very enjoyable novel deserves to be yet another success for Stuart Woods.
